We’re doing something a little unusual on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Sharing God’s Light Through Art.” We recorded the program in a different kind of studio. Instead of microphones and recording consoles, we were surrounded by paintings, easels, and more paint brushes in one place than I’ve ever seen.
The art studio belongs to Morgan Weistling, who has been an artist since he was old enough to hold a crayon. He has studied under some of the most legendary illustrators and artists of the last century. For 14 years, Morgan worked in Hollywood, creating movie posters and collectable artwork. In 1998, he transitioned to the world of fine art and has become a premier, award-winning painter, most often depicting scenes about families in early American life.
All of that is background to the more incredible story we talked to Morgan about on our broadcast: his journey to Christ. I’ll let him tell the whole story, but Focus has been a part of his journey from the beginning.
We also talked about how we’ve come full circle. Morgan has agreed to continue the great tradition originally started by the late G. Harvey. For years before he passed away in 2017, he produced special paintings for Focus and allowed us to offer prints to our constituents.
Now Morgan is picking up the torch. His first painting for us is called “Sharing the Light.” Although it’s hard for him to put into words what he puts onto canvas, he describes how the painting was based on the first Scripture that came to mind when Focus first approached him about the possibility of working together.
Matthew 5:15-16 says, “Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Right away, an image came to him. He says, “I knew this would be the first painting. It was like it was always sitting there in my heart to do.”
We hope you’ll join us for our program, so we can introduce you to Morgan and share with you his passion for serving the Lord through art. You can hear our full conversation with Morgan on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, via Google Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app, or watch the full program on our YouTube channel.
