Check out these squishy sensory bags for tracing numbers! Make practicing writing skills a fun sensory experience with everyday supplies.
Learning to write numbers is a lot of fun with these easy-to-create, squishy sensory bags!
Sensory bags can be made a variety of ways.
I chose to use aloe gel (typically used on sunburns) for the filling in these ones.
I held a resealable sandwich bag open as my daughter poured the aloe gel in.
We tried pumping it into the bag, but that took way too long. Taking the lid off and pouring it into the bag was much quicker!
She poured just enough in to cover the side of the bag when it was laid flat.
I removed most of the air and sealed the squishy sensory bag.
We did it this way to create a total of three sensory bags out of one bottle of gel.
I added a pony bead to one of the bags before I sealed it.
Each of the sealed sandwich bags was then placed into a second sandwich bag.
I figured double bagging them gave them a better chance of staying mess-free!
Once the squishy sensory bags were made, I cut sheets of computer paper into four equal pieces.
Then, I wrote numbers using a permanent marker on each piece.
I made sure to include zero, which so often seems to be forgotten.
We placed the bags on top of the numbered papers. They were still very easy to see through the bag.
Then, it was time for the number practice fun to begin!
My daughters then traced the numbers using the eraser side of a new, un-sharpened pencil. (I didn’t want to take the chance of poking holes in the bags!)
They laughed about how it felt!
The bead in the one squishy sensory bag added a little challenge. My daughters had fun trying to push it on the lines as they traced some of the numbers.
The nice thing about this is that the bags can be used over and over again.
Perfect for practicing how to draw shapes and write letters, numbers, and words!
